Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

CUAACD402 - Experiment with moulding and casting techniques

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Develop ideas and designs for moulds and casts

  1. Apply knowledge of different casting and moulding techniques to inform ideasand designs
  2. Research, adapt and use relevant ideas and approaches from other practitioners considering intellectualpropertyrequirements
  3. Explore ideas and techniques at the same time to strengthen potential outcomes
  4. Consider the market potential, required techniques and access to materials, tools and equipment when developing ideas for work
  5. Refine and confirm ideas based on experimentation, research and collaboration with others

Evidence of the ability to:

develop ideas and techniques using research and experimentation

adapt, extend and combine the capabilities of different moulding materials and techniques

produce finished moulded or cast items that demonstrate a command of techniques using safe and sustainable work practices

evaluate own work through self-reflection and collaboration with others.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe physical properties and capabilities of an extended range of materials and tools used in moulding and casting

outline characteristics of different materials under different treatments and explain the potential of these characteristics to achieve different effects

outline research methodologies used by artists

identify suppliers of moulding and casting resources needed in a professional practice

explain intellectual property and other relevant legislation to be considered if using or adapting ideas from other practitioners

outline work health and safety and sustainability considerations for the set-up and operation of moulding and casting work space.
